Pleated, pintuck or clean-front wide leg trousers: which to stock first

Which wide leg trousers should a boutique stock first? Cotiful compares its pleated, pintuck and clean-front wholesale options — the silhouettes behind rising English queries such as wide leg women's trousers, best wide leg trousers and wide leg high waist trousers, and behind Romanian pantaloni largi / pantaloni dama eleganti (with pantaloni drepti dama rising as a straighter alternative some shops still test). Serbian and Bulgarian buyers often say široke pantalone or дамски панталони с широки крачоли.

Why the front of the trouser matters

Boutique buyers in the Balkans and Europe already know the wide leg works. Customers have moved from skinny and straight cuts to fuller trousers, and they come back for them. What decides whether a trouser sells through is smaller: the front. The front decides how the trouser falls, how formal it looks, and which top the customer will put with it. Get the front right for your customer and the trouser becomes a reorder. Get it wrong and it becomes a markdown.

Cotiful's three wide leg trousers share the same idea: a high waist, a wide leg to the hem, and a polyviscose cloth. They are all cut in sizes 38 to 46. The difference is the front, and the customer it suits.

The pleated wide-leg trouser (3008552)

The pleated version has front pleats that open into the leg. It gives the trouser volume at the hip and a soft fall to the floor. This is the most relaxed of the three and the easiest to wear with a knit, a simple shirt or a T-shirt. In the photographs it is shown in black.

Choose it first if your customer dresses for comfort but still wants to look put together. It suits shops that sell knitwear, casual blazers and everyday pieces. It is also forgiving on fit, which matters when you are buying a size run for customers you cannot measure.

The pintuck wide-leg trouser (3010516)

The pintuck version has a stitched line down the front of each leg. It looks pressed even when it is not, and it makes the leg look longer. It is the most tailored of the three and the one that pairs best with a blazer or a crisp shirt. In the photographs it is shown in black with a white shirt.

Choose it first if your customers buy for work, or if your shop sells suits and blazers. It is the natural partner for a jacket like the Cotiful pinstripe blazer, and it gives the customer a trouser that looks like part of a suit without buying one.

The clean-front wide-leg trouser (3012292)

The clean-front version has no pleats and no stitched line. The front is flat and smooth, so the trouser looks minimal and modern. It is the easiest to dress up or down, and it shows the colour and the cloth more than the cut. In the photographs it is shown in a dark brown.

Choose it first if your customers like a simple, clean look, or if your shop sells colour. A clean front is the best canvas for a seasonal shade, because nothing interrupts it. It also works well for customers who prefer a flatter line over the stomach.

If you can only take one

A shop that can take only one wide-leg trouser should match it to the top it sells most. If the rail is full of knits and casual layers, take the pleated front. If it is full of blazers and shirts, take the pintuck. If the shop sells on colour and clean lines, take the clean front. That simple rule beats guessing at what is popular, because it uses what your customer already buys from you.

If you can take two, the strongest pair is usually one relaxed and one tailored: the pleated and the pintuck. They look different enough on the rail to give the customer a real choice, and together they cover both the weekend and the office. Add the clean front later in a colour once you know which sizes sell.

Sizes and the first order

All three trousers are cut in sizes 38 to 46. When you write, tell Cotiful which sizes sell best in your shop, and ask for the size run that fits that pattern. Your own sales history is the best guide here. This page does not quote a price or a minimum. Those depend on the trouser, the colour and the quantity, and Cotiful confirms them on WhatsApp for your exact request.

Ask for the colour card at the same time. Black is the safe start for the pleated and pintuck fronts, and a warmer shade like the brown shown here suits the clean front. Colours change by season, so ask what can be cut now.

Other wide-leg cuts on the Cotiful rail

These three are not the only wide leg trousers Cotiful makes. There are double-button, belted, single-button and side-tab versions, high-waist palazzo pants, and chiffon pleated pants for warmer months. If you already know which one you want, read wholesale palazzo pants, pleated trousers for fall or grey wide-leg or palazzo, then send a photo of the trouser you want on WhatsApp.
